In my review of
10 Things You Need to Know to Turnaround Your Business Problems
by Alyson Ogilvie-Lee posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Two Stars. This means it is Disappointing.
Could have been better
The author quotes statistics about business failures in Australia and, just like in the UK, far too many businesses close.
She says that paralysed management is a major cause. The business owners know there is a problem but can’t face up to dealing with it. Gradually it gets worse until the final cash flow crisis makes it impossible to continue.
Poor financial records are a second major problem. Either regular comprehensive information doesn’t exist or the messages it gives are not understood or ignored.
I’d quibble over the points and whether they are for a turnaround situation or whether they are important lessons to avoid the gradual decline into failure.
The book uses short stories to help illustrate the points. Often these are rank bad management or the owners seem lazy and disinterested. I like the idea of using the stories but I’m not sure many business owners will relate.
This is a frustrating book. It deserved to be better written or edited. It could have been good but I can’t recommend it as it is.
