101 Ways to Grow Your Business by Hugh Williams

In my review of

101 Ways to Grow your Business

by Hugh Williams, posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Three Stars. This means it is Worthwhile.

Here is my book review.

A book about the little things to do right, wide ranging in scope around customer/client service

Some books present big concepts of a few key success factors that must be done correctly. Others, like this one, believe success is a series of small steps to greatness.

When you start reading this book, you might find it easy to dismiss the ideas. You and your employees don’t need to be told to “be polite” and “don’t swear”,. Well not in theory but what about in practice? Could you imagine being shocked if you were shown a video of staff members being rude to customers and swearing at them?

There are plenty of good ideas in this book and it’s easy to read.

I’m struggling to recommend it. I think the issue is that I can’t pin down who should read it as a priority. There are many thousands of business books and there needs to be a specific reason to read each one. It has to solve a pressing problem.

The book’s title says it’s about growth and in a way it is. Each of these tips could help you to grow indirectly but, if growth is a big objective, I think you’re going to want something more direct to help you sell more to existing customers, convert more leads into orders and to generate more leads.

Much of it will help you to improve your customer service but, if you’re getting specific complaints or concerns about your service, you need a book to help you to look at your processes systematically and this isn’t that book.

My rating feels mean at three stars. It’s a book that could inspire a business owner who is doing pretty well and has no particular concerns or worries. It can help you to polish your business rather than fix it.
