Interesting comparison done well for business owners who wouldn’t normally read business books
I ignored this a few times as salacious but then I gave in to the curiosity of my darker instincts.
In fact I had once thought of doing something similar by using prostitutes as a way of explaining the different dimensions of differentiation. I haven’t yet.
This market is seedy but it’s one that everyone who has experienced sexual desire can understand, even if you’d never consider this specific transaction.
The author makes the comparison very well and draws out the key marketing lessons. It reveals that the prostitutes are effective marketers, pursuing tactics that apply generally.
It’s not always a pleasant read and I’m left with great sympathy for the girls who take this career decision as the only way they can care for their families. Popular prostitutes can earn ten times what a normal job pays and demand is high as the notoriety of the area pulls in more curious punters
This isn’t a marketing book I’d recommend to everyone. Many will be put off by the subject and it’s not helped by the tacky cover photograph. However, for some it will make reading a marketing book much more accessible and will help people to remember the key lessons.
It’s made me start thinking about what other business books I’d recommend to business owners who don’t like business books.
