Are You Enjoying The Journey To Your Vision?

If you’ve been reading my articles on my blog, you’ll have seen that I make a big issue about knowing where you are going.

I want you to have a clear vision of where you are going for your business and your personal life.

I buy into the ideas explained by Michael Gerber in his book The E Myth Revisited called the Primary Aim and Strategic Objective. They were the two big things I took from the book about living your life purposefully as a business owner:

Your Primary Aim Answers The Big Questions In Your Life

Your Strategic Objective – Design Your Business To Be Right For You

However I have been thinking and I believe there can be a problem.

A disconnect.

Your Holiday And The Different Attitudes To The Journeys

A few days ago I was talking to my Mum and we both agreed that there is a strange thing about the travelling involved with going on holiday.

  • The journey going out is usually fun. It’s part of the adventure. It’s exciting and it’s something to be appreciated.
  • The journey coming home is a pain. If you could be transported back home (like they do in Star Trek) it would be perfect.

Your Journey To Your Vision

I’ve recently written an article about finding your business mojo:

>>> How To Get Your Business Mojo Back

It is part of a series of articles that look at the common business problems and how to solve them at source.

In that article I gave reasons why you might not be fully committed to your business:

  • you may be ill
  • you may have a serious family problem
  • you may not have a clear vision

I later added a fourth reason:

  • you might not be enjoying the work you are doing to get to your vision.

If you hate what you’re doing, then it’s likely:

  • you find it difficult to get started in a morning
  • any distraction causes you to break off and it’s difficult to get back into it afterwards. This can leave plenty of projects started but not finished.
  • you will procrastinate about the worst parts.
  • you won’t be doing what you do very well so it’s probably not going to be successful.

That looks like a fatal combination to me.

It makes business failure easy and business success hard.

If You’re Struggling With Your Business

If you’re finding business difficult, it might be because you’re not clear where you’re going.

You haven’t done the work necessary to find your vision. You haven’t become clear on your primary aim and the role your business will play in it.

Or, you might love your vision but hate your journey.
