A very good book for business owners who are stuck

This is a very good book written to help business owners who feel stuck and want to get unstuck.

This is an area of special interest for me and in another book review, How to Get Unstuck: 25 Ways to Get Your Business Growing Again, I committed to reading and reviewing all the books on being stuck and getting unstuck. [continue reading…]

A nice summary planning process

This book explains a useful planning process which helps to provide focus and coordination. The format summarises the plan nicely although I think the one page is a gimmick as it specifies a minimum font size of 6ppt. Personally I’d rather have two pages I can read without squinting.

It involves working through the main Objective, Goals, Strategies & both meanings of Measures – a KPI Dashboard and Actions. [continue reading…]

An interesting look at common mistakes and how to fix them

I help business owners get unstuck but, until recently, it had never occurred to me that there would be plenty of books on the subject. It’s my intention to review them all.

This is an interesting look at common mistakes made by business owners in terms of sales and marketing, finance, managing people etc. As well as identifying the causes of the mistakes, the book also reveals how to fix them. [continue reading…]

Here is my book review.

A very useful book to help you to think about retail showrooming

Have you ever seen something you like in a retail store, taken out your phone and gone to Amazon? I have. I’d probably justify it, if challenged, by saying I wanted to read the reviews but I can’t help but notice the price too.

This is the problem of showrooming. It’s defined as using a physical retail store to find products you want but buying on the Internet. It’s a significant issue for the retail chains bearing the costs of the physical stores and service staff but not receiving any of the revenue to compensate. [continue reading…]

Quaint but still helpful and relevant

This book was published in 1994. A great deal has changed in the twenty odd years since then in terms of the Internet, PCs, digital photographs and developments in the printing industry.

Some of it is quaint but there is plenty in here that is still relevant and useful. [continue reading…]

Secrets Of The Millionaire Mind: Think Rich To Get Rich“.

In my review on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a rating of Four Stars. This means I consider it to be good to very good.

Here is my review.

Much more insightful than you might expect

Self help books about getting rich, like this one, may make you feel yucky. I know I’m deeply suspicious of anything that looks or sounds like a “get rich quick” scheme designed to feed false hope to poor people and rip money away from them.

That’s how I feel anyway, when I move from sensible business books to “woo woo” psychology. [continue reading…]

An interesting look at the issues involved with copywriting for different buyer stages and personalities.

I read this book because I thought the author’s first book, The 24 Hour Marketing Miracle was excellent.

That book introduced the ideas of value mechanics based on axiology and as this had the same topic in the subtitle, I thought it would be the main focus of the book. [continue reading…]

Here is my review.

A direct response marketing book so good you don’t want your competitors to read it

This book isn’t for everybody. The writing style is quite abrasive at the start and the author doesn’t pull any punches over what he thinks is right or wrong.

The book looks at direct response marketing and copywriting. While you may not want to do it yourself, I believe business owners need to know and understand the process. [continue reading…]

Here is my book review.

A very good, action focused guide to the main social media websites

I’m a social media sceptic when it comes to using the websites as marketing media. It works very well for some types of business but not others. It’s a great way to play, while justifying the time spent as working on marketing and promoting your business.

This book is so good that it makes a significant step in converting me from a sceptic to a believer. [continue reading…]

The Race by Eliyahu Goldratt

In my review of Eliyahu Goldratt’s book

The Race

on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a rating of Four Stars. This means that it is good to very good.

Here is what I wrote.

The Goal told you what to do and why, The Race tells you how to do it

This is the companion book to The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement. If you loved your introduction to the Theory of Constraints when you read the novel, this is an obvious next step to put meat onto the bones of the ideas introduced. [continue reading…]
