The James Bond Cold Reading: A Re-Imagining Of The Classic Reading.
In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book a Four Stars rating. This means it is Good and Well Worth Reading.
Here is my book review.
A clever idea
The idea of using a short James Bond plot to help you cold read is very clever, as are the underlying,12 classic lines.
Inevitably it will still take effort to learn them and even more to practice using them in a love situation. [continue reading…]

When I reviewed this book by Jon McCulloch,
Why Your Copywriting Sucks
on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a rating of Five Stars. This means it is Excellent and Very Highly Recommended.
Here is my book review.
A fascinating book split into two parts
The author concedes too many copywriting books and courses are sold through hype and admits that the copywriting isn’t as important as the offer, the people who get to see the offer and any existing relationship.
The book is split into two sections and it’s almost as if these are two different books rammed together, the first for beginners the second for more advanced copywriters. [continue reading…]

How To Write Great Website Content: Get High In Search Engines and Increase The Leads, Sales or Donations Of ANY Website
In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Four Stars. This means it is Good and Well Worth Reading.
Here is my book review.
Part SEO guide and part copywriting guide.
A useful guide to preparing copy for a website.
I wasn’t entirely convinced by the advice on writing for Google. Ten years ago it used to be fairly easy to write for a high search engine ranking position but Google have deliberately made it much harder to predict. Updates called Panda and Penguin punished aggressive action. [continue reading…]

PACE: A Small Business Owner’s Guide to Complete Cash Flow Clarity
In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Four Stars. This means it is Good and Well Worth Reading.
Here is my book review.
Interesting way to think through cash flow management.
A young CPA (accountant) with a software business selling budgeting software has developed a way of managing his cash flow.
As he tells his story about his uncertainties regarding cash flow, he seems remarkably absent minded ideas like a short term cash flow forecast let alone a longer term one. Yes you have to make assumptions and they can be wrong but it’s the way people normally work in bigger organisations as well as startups requiring funding. [continue reading…]

Should be seen as a classic strategy text
I bought this book when it came out and thought it was excellent.

A female view on managing a business
The book starts with a charming story of how the author accidentally found herself in business.
After reading a few badly written books recently, it’s a pleasure to find one that is well organised and flows, making it easy to read. [continue reading…]

Summary: Money Hunt: Review and Analysis of Spencer and Ennico’s Book
The book that has been summarised this time is “Money Hunt: 27 New Rules for Creating and Growing a Breakaway Business” by Miles Spencer and Cliff Ennico.

Packed with uncommon sense
In this book summary, there are 27 rules for small business startup success.
I hadn’t heard of the original book but this came up on searches and after the third or fourth time, I was intrigued enough to look for it. Reading the reviews, it sounded very good but was expensive, even second hand. [continue reading…]

A handy reference to keep within arm’s reach
Some may think Google has made this book redundant. If you have a question, you can just go to your favourite search engine and ask “the wise men” out there.
Personally I feel there is still a use for the book. It’s hard to know who is giving the answers on Google and whether they are qualified. Yes you can read three answers but what if they are all fools? [continue reading…]

I am a prolific reader and reviewer of business books on Amazon.co.uk and I get really irritated when the reviews get overwhelmed with fake stuff.
How can you tell?
Well there is the nature of the review for one but, it is even more reliable to go and have a look at what else the reviewer has reviewed.
You can find plenty of occasions where the reviewer has reviewed six books, all been given five stars and a rave review and they are all by the same author.
Unfortunately it takes time to click on everyone.
An easier way is to use Fakespot.com which will do the analysis for you. [continue reading…]

Mistakes coaches make in their marketing
I realise that, as a man, I’m not the target audience for the book but I was interested to know what it had to say
The short book is a transcription of a presentation at a live event and has been cleaned up to improve readability. The book also gives you a link to watch a video of the presentation.
While the book title refers to entrepreneurs, the book seems to be addressing coaches. There is no reason why the lessons shouldn’t apply to a wider audience. [continue reading…]
