How to Write Sales Letters that Sell: Learn the Secrets of Successful Direct Mail

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it Five Stars. This means it is Excellent and Very Highly Recommended.

Here is my review.

An excellent book for people interested in copywriting

When I first became self employed, I decided I wanted to split my time between small businesses and bigger businesses who had challenging projects. My problem was how to reach the key executives in these bigger companies. LinkedIn didn’t exist back then and my answer was direct mail. [continue reading…]

When I reviewed this book by Jon McCulloch,

Why Your Copywriting Sucks

on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a rating of Five Stars. This means it is Excellent and Very Highly Recommended.

Here is my book review.

A fascinating book split into two parts

The author concedes too many copywriting books and courses are sold through hype and admits that the copywriting isn’t as important as the offer, the people who get to see the offer and any existing relationship.

The book is split into two sections and it’s almost as if these are two different books rammed together, the first for beginners the second for more advanced copywriters. [continue reading…]

A classic copywriting guide

I’m not sure what else I can say to persuade you to buy this book when there is already a five star review from British copywriting legend, Drayton Bird, on here.

It seems to me that there are three types of copywriting books available. [continue reading…]

The Ultimate Sales Letter: Boost your sales with powerful sales letters, based on Madison Avenue techniques“.

In my review posted at Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book a Five Stars rating. This means I think it is Excellent.

Here is my book review.

My copy shows plenty of signs of use and that’s probably the strongest recommendation I can give.

When I look at my copy of this book, it shows all the signs of use – the spine cracked, various sections underlined in different colours, others asterisked and there are comments in the margin.

This is a book I go back to when I am preparing to write a sales letter because it is a) very good and b) very well organised. [continue reading…]

Simple Writing System Express

John Carlton is back at long last in May 2014 with a new promotion for his extremely successful copywriting course backed up with personal mentoring from great professional copywriters.

As he’s done before, the product launch is with feedback based copywriting training with the Simple Writing System Express Course.

The genius of this is that it lets you sample exactly what the full course is like for free while you think about investing in it.

Why You Should Try The Simple Writing System Express

During the launch phase, John and his copywriting mentors give you direct feedback on your responses to the exercises set.

The first exercise in particular is a stunner.

It’s all about getting into the mindset of your ideal customer by listening to them having a moan in a bar.

What is going on in his or her mind? What are the pains they are suffering? What fears, beliefs and dreams do you have to work with?

I could tell you more but it’s much better if you listen to John Carlton in the first short video then you get immediate access to if you sign up and confirm your email address.

Then do the exercise and submit it.

I think you’ll learn a lot. There’s no obligation that you’ll move forward and buy the full training course although you might find yourself sucked in by what you learn.

Still it’s a great thing to buy training that expands your mind, clarifies your thoughts and helps you to achieve your business and financial objectives.

What’s Special About The Full Training Training

We both know that the purpose of the launch is to get you excited about the training that lies behind it.

Let’s have a quick look at it to see if it’s worth taking the time.

Unlike other training courses for copywriting, the SWS gives you the system and you work with a highly experienced and gifted copywriter to create your own first important piece of copy.

There are 17 steps and you do each as an exercise in an open (private) forum and you get pushed hard to improve what you’re writing and the way that you’re thinking about your marketing issues.

While you get individual feedback, it can often be easier to see the points with other people (and it’s much less personal for those of us with sensitive dispositions). You can do that too but don’t be inhibited by your own fear of criticism. Get stuck in on your own marketing and toughen up to constructive feedback, even if it seems negative at first.

I’ve written a long and detailed review of my experience of doing the course in 2010.

Simple Writing System Review

In the review I say I’m doing the course for a second time because it was so good and I’d been offered access again because I’d won an affiliate prize. It seemed a no brainer to me but due to an administrative mix up, I got missed out of the invite.

A couple of months later I made contact to ask when the course was starting, only to be told that they were halfway through.

Since it wasn’t clear when the course would run again, I then opted to get my prize paid out in cash.

Best regards

Paul

John Carlton’s Bar Conversation

What would your ideal customer be saying if you heard him moaning to a bar tender while he was having a drink to relax after a really bad day?

It’s a great question to dig into the mindset of your customers and it was invented (?) and certainly made popular by master copywriter John Carlton.

John is launching another round of his Simple Writing System copywriting mentoring course and this question is one of the elements in his free “try before you buy” Simple Writing System Express Course.

Take this chance to watch his video explaining the bar-room conversation exercise in more detail and get feedback on your interpretation.
