Double Your Business by Lee Duncan – 5 Stars

The full title of this book by Lee Duncan is

Double Your Business: How to break through the barriers to higher growth, turnover and profit“.

In my review posted to Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Five Stars. This means I think iy=t is Excellent and is Very Highly Recommended.

Here is my book review.

Fix your constraints or growth barriers and grow your business to the size you want.

In his book “Double Your Business”, the author, Lee Duncan has revealed how any business owner can grow their business to the size that suits them.

He takes what some may find a counter-intuitive approach although it’s one I entirely agree with.

Some business owners may think that growing a business is easy. You just spend more money on marketing. This should mean you attract more leads, convert a fair share of them to customers and then the business automatically grows. While that might work, it might not if you don’t take into account your constraints, the very things that are holding you and your business back.

This book helps you to find your own barriers to growth and then tells you what to do to get around them. The author has identified 22 growth barriers and has a simple diagnostic questionnaire at the start to help you to focus on where you can get the best return for your time, effort and money invested.

Let me explain a little more about these growth barriers and how ignoring them can backfire.

More marketing could ruin a business and drive it into bankruptcy if the marketing isn’t very good and costs more than it generates. The blueprints to get around the marketing barriers will help make sure that doesn’t happen.

Alternatively the marketing may generate lots of leads that aren’t converted into sales because the sales processes are very poor. The blueprints will fix that problem too.

Or marketing and sales may work fine but customer service may be rubbish so the more customers you have, the more complaints there are from unhappy customers and the more often, each customer’s first purchase becomes their last. Thanks to social media bad word of mouth spreads widely. The blueprints for customer service will make sure this doesn’t happen.

I think you’re getting the idea by now.

Growth isn’t as simple as many people think and that’s exactly why too many small businesses stay smaller than their owners would like. It’s not lack of hard work but the failure to focus on the few things that matter the most.

While this book talks about limits to growth and constraints, I should clarify that these ideas are not specifically linked to the Theory of Constraints developed by Eliyahu Goldratt but they draw on the same intellectual foundation. Ignoring constraints is a mistake that limits the output and performance of the entire business system.

If you’re an ambitious business owner, you need to read this book and take action on your particular barriers to growth. I know you’ll get plenty of “Aha” moments when you look back at things that you’ve tried before and they didn’t work. Now you can get it right.

At this stage, I must admit that I’m not entirely unbiased. Lee Duncan is a good friend. In early 2010, I wanted to form a mastermind group of leading business coaches in the UK and he was one of the first people I approached. I liked his style and thought he talked a great deal of sense. Since then he has confirmed that I made the right choice about the people I turned to for business advice.

You can make the right choice as well if you read Double Your Business and correct your growth barriers.

It is available to buy from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com.
