Here is my review.

A good, practical book on business growth

There are quite a few profit improvement books with similar titles but different approaches.

This is a good, practical book that looks at profit improvement through business growth rather than cutting costs and eliminating waste. It’s also tactical rather than strategic.

The chapters look at:
Goal setting
Time management
Lead generation
The sales process
Unique selling proposition
Marketing materials
Testimonials
Package deals
Internet marketing
Marketing message
Guarantees
Buying a business
Effective processes.

There are plenty of practical tips in each chapter and it’s hard to take issue with what’s written. If you’ve read many business books, there is little new. I recognised influences but the author doesn’t credit the original sources.

It loses a star because it doesn’t face up to the numbers issue. What does it really mean to double your profit in 6 months? If sales volumes and transactions increase, what are the implications for your business in terms of extra work and extra costs? Does the business face a constraint that will stop you increasing sales that much? What are the cash flow implications?

The Ultimate Sales Machine – an excellent book about business development that looks at twelve key disciplines.
