How To Write Great Website Content by Daniel Kaplan

The full title of this book by Daniel Kaplan is

How To Write Great Website Content: Get High In Search Engines and Increase The Leads, Sales or Donations Of ANY Website

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Four Stars. This means it is Good and Well Worth Reading.

Here is my book review.

Part SEO guide and part copywriting guide.

A useful guide to preparing copy for a website.

I wasn’t entirely convinced by the advice on writing for Google. Ten years ago it used to be fairly easy to write for a high search engine ranking position but Google have deliberately made it much harder to predict. Updates called Panda and Penguin punished aggressive action.

I’m telling you this because the book suggests 3 to 5% of a page total can be your targeted keyword. This is way to high for readability and Sir Google.

The book goes on to explain how to write to increase the likelihood of a website visitor taking the action you want.

It’s therefore part SEO guide and part copywriting guide. This combined approach may suit you or you may be better with two books.

It didn’t get five stars for several reasons:

1) I didn’t think it really got to grips with the connection between traffic source and website copy.

2) Many people will start searching the internet early in their search for a product or service, gradually increasing their knowledge of the options and clarifying their own purchase criteria. Normally this getting ready to buy stage can allow opportunities for building up a relationship based on the know, like and trust factors through email marketing. The book doesn’t cover what’s needed to get an email address.

I don’t want to be overly critical. I thought the book was concise and easy to read.

You can buy the book from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com.
