Books I’ve Reviewed And Rated As Worthy Of FIVE Stars

The full title of this book by Uwe Techt is

Goldratt and the Theory of Constraints: The Quantum Leap in Management“.

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I gave this book a FIVE Stars rating. This means I think it is excellent.

Here is my book review.

A very helpful summary

Goldratt’s business novels like “The Goal“, “It’s Not Luck“, “Critical Chain” etc are an excellent way to get a general appreciation of the Theory Of Constraints. Their weakness comes apparent when you want to go back and remind yourself of the critical concepts because they are too buried into the story.

The author, Uwe Techt has written an excellent summary of the fundamental ideas within the Theory Of Constraints which serves as both a refresher and a reference for when you’re trying to implement the concepts. As an initial introduction, I still recommend starting with “The Goal“. [continue reading…]

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book a rating of Five Stars. This means I think it is Excellent.

Very interesting and well worth reading if you have a colour screen

This interesting book is written by a psychologist with 20 years practical experience who has previously worked in sales and marketing.

The author contrasts what you know and what a customer knows using set theory diagrams. I’m a visual thinker so I like the clarity of this approach but unfortunately the diagrams don’t come out well on a standard Kindle reader with its black and shades of grey contrasts. [continue reading…]

Think Smarter by Michael Kallett – 5 Stars

The full title of this book by MIchael Kallett is

Think Smarter: Critical Thinking to Improve Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills“.

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I rated the book at the Five Stars level. I believe it is excellent.

A clear process for making better decisions

I was never really taught how to think at school. By that I mean that I’ve no memory of any teacher explaining a process of how to look at an issue or problem to find the best solution.

As soon as I started managing other people, it became very clear that other people had the same gap in their eduction or were too lazy to put it into action. So much happens without any questioning or things stop because people don’t know how to use their initiative. [continue reading…]

A very interesting read

You will have noticed that there are a lot of very positive reviews about this book. However you need to know that within it, the author blatantly uses the described methods to persuade readers to think highly of the book and to then write a positive review on Amazon. [continue reading…]

Theory of Constraints Handbook – 5 Stars

Theory of Constraints Handbook

I gave this very large, very intensive look at the Theory of Constraints a rating of Five Stars in my review on Amazon.co.uk.

Here is my book review.

The Serious Guide To The Theory Of Constraints

If you’ve read “The Goal” and a few other books about the Theory Of Constraints and you want to implement it yourself or through a specialist consultancy, this is the most definitive guide I’ve seen.

It is massive with 38 chapters which end on page 1135 before the Bibliography and Index… and that’s with a smaller print font than I’d ideally like.

Its size is both a strength and a weakness. I’ve had it for five years and I use it to dip in and out of as a reference rather than as a book to read from start to finish. Its bulk is intimidating and it’s heavy to hold. [continue reading…]

This is a review of

“Genghis Khan Guide to Business” by Brian Charles John Warnes.

Who Should Read This Book

  1. Every qualified accountant without extensive business experience at finance director/controller/chief financial officer level.
  2. Every business owner and entrepreneur.
  3. Every managing director or chief executive who is responsible for the profit and cash performance of a business and who doesn’t have complete confidence in his or her finance director or CFO.

How I Was Introduced To The Book

After I passed the final exams to be a chartered accountant, I was given this book to read by one of the partners in my accountancy firm who had returned to the profession after working in industry for many years. I was told that I’d learn how finance really worked in the real world, away from all the fancy theories I’d learnt to for the exams. [continue reading…]

This will change the way you invest (if you’re sensible)

This is a must read book for anyone who invests in the stock exchange by buying individual shares.

Based on the experience of running a Best Ideas unit trust where well known investors were given a large amount of money to invest in a small number of companies. He saw some live up to their big reputations but others stumbled badly so he started to investigate why by looking at their investments and their trading habits. [continue reading…]

Reality In Advertising by Rosser Reeves – 5 Stars

Reality In Advertising by Rosser Reeves

This is considered to be a classic market text as it introduced or at least popularised the concept of unique selling propositions.

Does it stand the test of time?

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I rated the book at the Five Stars level. This means I think it is Excellent.

Here is my book review.

A marketing classic and a delight to read

This is the famous book credited with popularising the concept of the Unique Selling Proposition. It was first published in 1961. Can a book that is fifty years old have anything to teach us about advertising and marketing?

You bet it does. It starts with perhaps the most powerful statement I’ve read in a business book.”It cost $1,000,000,000 to write this book. We spent that much of our clients’ money and made many mistakes to isolate these principles.” One billion dollars – in 1961! Who knows how much that would be in today’s money. [continue reading…]

Invisible Selling Machine by Ryan Deiss – 5 Stars

Invisible Selling Machine: 5 Steps To Crafting an Automated Evergreen Email Campaign That Literally Makes Sales While You Sleep“.

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I rated this book at the Five Stars level. This means I consider it to be Excellent.

Here is my book review.

Very good book about how to structure your email marketing campaigns.

For some years, Ryan Deiss has been one of my three favourite Internet marketing experts because:

  1. He’s active in many different markets, not just the make money online market.
  2. He’s committed to testing ideas and seeing which work best, tweaking and then testing again.
  3. He doesn’t pad out his training with irrelevant details to waste your time.

Those three qualities can be seen in this book as well as his normal, more expensive, training programs. [continue reading…]

Triggers by Joseph Sugarman – 5 Stars

The full title of this classic book by Joe Sugarman is

Triggers: How to Use the Psychological Triggers of Selling to Motivate, Persuade & Influence“.

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I rated the book as Five Stars. This means I think it is Excellent and is Very Highly Recommended. I don’t give many Five Star Ratings.

It explains the 30 psychological factors that help the customer to buy

Triggers is a terrific book by Joe Sugarman, one of the leading direct marketers in the world who has used these factors over many years to make a fortune in direct response mail order advertising.

In fact I wish that I had read it years ago. The book is beautifully written with each chapter focused on one psychological trigger with explanations of how the factor can be used in copywriting/print and in a direct, face-to-face selling environment. [continue reading…]
