Jump Start Your Marketing Brain: Scientific Advice and Practical Ideas

In my review on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Five Stars. This means it is Excellent and is Very Highly Recommended.

Here is my book review.

Can this book rescue marketing and marketers?

I thought the author’s book Jump Start Your Business Brain was excellent when I read it and it was a no-brainer to move on to this book

Its purpose is to rescue marketing. The book starts with the assertion that between 75 per cent and 95 per cent of marketing initiatives fail. This is based on research and interviews with CEOs. [continue reading…]

The full title of this book issued by the people behind the Copyblogger website is

How to Write Magnetic Headlines: The Fundamental Guide to the Most Important Copywriting Skill on the Planet“.

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book a FOUR stars rating which means I consider it to be in the good to very good category.

Here is what I wrote.

Good summary of headlines for blog posts and Twitter.

Reading the Copyblogger website is on my list of things I should have done more but never seemed to find the time so it was interested when I saw this book about writing headlines.

Yet also a little nervous. A “how to” headline is probably the easiest there is to use and one I fall back on when I’m short of inspiration. [continue reading…]

Rethink Your Marketing by Tom Shapiro – 5 Stars

The full title of this book by Tom Shapiro is

“Rethink Your Marketing: 7 Strategies to Unleash Revenue Growth”.

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a FIVE star rating, meaning that I rate it as excellent.

Here is what I posted.

An excellent and thoughtful book to get your business back on track

The book encourages you to rethink seven different areas:

1-your audience
2-how they think
3-your goals
4-your marketing mix
5-your metrics
6-your revenue model
7-your future

The aim is to get your business growing again. Too often, companies get stuck and the owner-managers don’t know what to do other than more of the same, copying competitors or jumping on the latest fad. [continue reading…]

45 Minute Business Breakthroughs: How I Find $10K In Any Business In 45 Minutes

When I reviewed the book on Amazon.co.uk, I rated the book at the Four Stars level which means I think it is Good and Well Worth Reading.

Here is my book review.

Well worth reading and currently the cheapest but one of many versions

After reading and reviewing another of these “how to find 10K” books through my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I searched around and this seemed to be the cheapest available although that may change.

So I bought it for 99p to add to my digital library. [continue reading…]

How I Find $10k in Any Business in 45 Minutes by Stephen Fox

When I reviewed this book on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Four Stars. This means it is Good and Well Worth Reading.

Here is my book review.

One of many – if interested look for the cheapest

This book is a good idea. Who doesn’t want to know where they can find extra revenue and profit. The promise in this book is to find $10k of extra revenue which isn’t very demanding and could have been more ambitious.

It’s such a good idea that, if you search Amazon for the title, you’ll see remarkably similar books, often with very similar covers by different authors. [continue reading…]

Chase One Rabbit by David Parrish

The full title of this book by David Parrish is

“Chase One Rabbit: Strategic Marketing for Business Success: 63 Tips, Techniques and Tales for Creative Entrepreneurs”.

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I rated the book at the FOUR stars level, this means it’s in the good to very good category.

Here is what I wrote.

A good introduction to strategic marketing that deserves to be read by many small business owners

Although this book is targeted towards entrepreneurs in the creative industries, I believe it deserves a much wider audience of small business owners. The general messages in the book apply to all sectors and whilst the examples and stories used are from creative businesses, they are easily understood.

The main purpose of the book is to introduce the ideas of strategic marketing as opposed to operational marketing. You’re probably familiar with operational marketing because it tells you how to use marketing media – how to have a good website, how to get ranked in search engines, how to use display advertisements in newspapers and magazines, how to create a direct mail letter or how to use social media. It’s probably how you think about marketing. [continue reading…]

Marketing: The Top 100 Best Things That You Can Do In Order To Make Money & Be Successful With Marketing

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it 3 Stars.

Here is my review.

It has some useful tips but it’s over-hyped

I downloaded the book Sales: Sales Strategies: The Top 100 Best Ways To Increase Sales as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription because it had received plenty of 5 stars reviews. I received well over 50 bonus books including this marketing book so I had a quick look. Please don’t assume this is what you’ll get if you buy the normal kindle book, it might be but it might not. The Ultimate Small Business Marketing Book by Dee Blick

This book,

The Ultimate Small Business Marketing Book” by Dee Blick,

is amazingly popular on Amazon.co.uk with small business owners but has made little impression on Amazon.com.

I gave it a FOUR stars rating in my review. This means I consider it to be in the good to very good range.

Here is my review.

A good summary of marketing ideas for getting new customers

As a business coach, I read a lot of books about marketing and, with so many five star reviews, I couldn’t ignore this book.

Strangely it has taken me nearly three years to finish reading it which says something about the book.

Customer Chemistry: How to Keep the Customers You Want and Say Goodbye to the Ones You Don’t“.

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a rating of FOUR stars. This means it’s in the range of good to very good.

Here is my review.

You can manage your customer base

This is an interesting book that takes a different approach to thinking about customers.

Most managers and business owners focus on getting more customers this month and then more customers again next month. Yes it’s recognised that some customers are better than others but the general assumption is that any customer is better to have than not have. [continue reading…]

The Ultimate Marketing Plan (3rd Edition) by Dan Kennedy

The full title of this book by Dan Kennedy is

The Ultimate Marketing Plan: Find Your Hook. Communicate Your Message. Make Your Mark“.

In my review on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book a Four stars rating. This puts it in the good to very good category.

Here is my review.

A good introduction to Dan Kennedy but not so good if you want to prepare a marketing plan

This is a book that has given me mixed feelings so let me explain why.

*** What I don’t like about The Ultimate Marketing Plan ***

Rant 1 – the use of the word “ultimate” makes me mad. Regular edition updates prove it wasn’t the ultimate.

Rant 2 – Dan Kennedy takes you through many different topics – and it makes great reading – but I didn’t feel that I was reading a book about preparing a marketing plan. There is a form at the back which tries to pull the topics together to create a marketing plan with a worked example – but it didn’t work. [continue reading…]
