Ultimate Small Business Marketing Guide by James Stephenson

The full title of this book by James Stephenson is

Ultimate Small Business Marketing Guide: 1500 Great Marketing Tricks That Will Drive Your Business Through The Roof“.

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book a Four Stars rating. This means I think it is in the good to very good range.

Here is my book review.

A great reference book on marketing, even if it is dull

I’ve had this book for many years and I haven’t used it as often as I should.

It’s not the sort of book you start reading on page 1 and go through to the end. It’s too dull but it’s not meant to be used in that way.

The book is there to be dipped into when you need to find out or remind yourself how to do a particular type of marketing or you want to finesse what you’re doing to make it more effective. The contents is small doses is very good.

The main sections are (typed as per the index):
Research, planning & competition
Employee
Customer service
Home office
Advertising, direct marketing and telemarketing
Public relations
Networking
Prospecting
Presentation
Closing
Creative selling
Retailing
Service provider
Web site and online
Trade show and seminar

It includes various checklists which are useful. Some are included within the main text but the majority are at the back of the book. It even includes a list of the 200 most persuasive words in advertising.

I’ve docked one star for its age. My 2nd edition book is copyrighted in 2007 so its comments on websites and email are almost prehistoric. There is still value here but things have moved a long way in the years since the book was written and it makes no mention of social websites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram etc.

This is well worth space on your business book shelf although you need other books to inspire you.

It is available to buy from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com.
