What To Do When You Are Stuck by Richard Dotts

The full title of this book by Richard Dotts is

What To Do When You Are Stuck And Nothing Seems To Work

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I rated it as a FOUR Stars book, this means I think it is good to very good.

Here is what I posted.

Focuses on your inner game

This book focuses on what I call your inner game, how your thoughts, beliefs and emotions control your actions or inactions.

The book makes the point that you should stop reading books about being stuck and getting unstuck because it is a former of procrastination. It also tells you to stop analysing the past to work out why you’re stuck because you need to take action to create momentum.

I have mixed feelings about this advice. I think that’s because I work with business owners and the problem can originate from either the business or the owner, creating a vicious circle of doubt. Analysis is required to solve business problems, but if the problem lies within the owner’s inner game, taking small, low risk actions can feel really good as you start to regain control.

The book takes you through a series of ideas to help trigger your first few actions. Once you get moving, it’s easier to keep moving.

This isn’t a book that’s going to help you figure out why you’re stuck but it will help you get unstuck if you’re prepared to put the ideas into action. One or two may not appeal to you or work for you but that’s OK. The author sees this as a pick and mix and not as a detailed, precise process starting with 1 and following through each in sequence. I don’t feel it’s the entire answer but it will get you started.

It is available to buy from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. It is also available to borrow under the Kindle Unlimited subscription at Amazon.co.uk.
