Six Lessons: My Sixty-Minute Masterclass with Eli Goldratt

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Three Stars, meaning Worthwhile.

Here is my book review.

Interesting interview

This is a transcript of an interview with Eliyahu Goldratt, drawing out lessons from “Isn’t It Obvious” which looked at retailing.

Inevitably given the format, it is a bit of a clunky read in places. People don’t tend to talk in as structured a way as they write. It starts by highlighting three lessons from the book and then goes on to find another three.

It is bitter-sweet. Goldratt was such an insightful thinker who has contributed so much to business improvement but he had so much more to give. The book refers to a series of other books based around the Strategy & Tactics trees for different industry types but his sad, early death means we’ ll never read them.

In the interview, Goldratt states that “The Choice” is the most important book he’s written but it wasn’t well understood. With the help of his daughter, it has been re-written with logic trees added. It’s a book I hadn’t read when I reviewed this book but I immediately went off to buy the updated version. Now I’ve read it, I can understand Goldratt”s point of view.

This is worthwhile reading but only if you’ve already read “It’s Not Obvious” or if you plan to read it soon. It doesn’t really work as a stand-alone item.
