The Race by Eliyahu Goldratt

In my review of Eliyahu Goldratt’s book

The Race

on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a rating of Four Stars. This means that it is good to very good.

Here is what I wrote.

The Goal told you what to do and why, The Race tells you how to do it

This is the companion book to The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement. If you loved your introduction to the Theory of Constraints when you read the novel, this is an obvious next step to put meat onto the bones of the ideas introduced.

This is a very visual book with a diagram or summary slide on the right side of every double page and with explanatory text on the left hand page.

The book was originally released in 1986 when there was little else available about TOC and was invaluable at the time. It’s much more of a how to guide although, if you want to put the ideas into practice, you really need specialist software.

In the last 30 years, the ideas behind TOC have developed and there are now many more books available. They may be good but they’re often hard going in my experience. This is much easier to understand but it is strictly for manufacturers because the ideas hadn’t been opened us as widely as they have been now.

It is available to buy from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com.
