Disequilibrium by Thierry Malleret – 5 Stars

The full title of this book by Thierry Malleret is

Disequilibrium: A World Out Of Kilter“.

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Five Stars. This means it is Excellent and Very Highly Recommended.

Here is my book review.

Fascinating pulling together of thoughts

If you have lots of seemingly unconnected thoughts about the future (your own, your country’s or the world’s) and most of them have more downside than upside, this is an excellent short book to read.

It takes a good look at complexity theory in a world full of uncertainty from a high level approach.

Too often, we seek specialist knowledge that looks deeper and deeper at a smaller and smaller problem. Sometimes that can work but often, it means that we miss vital interconnections that mean the whole is much easier to understand than one or more parts.

I’d have liked a better summary of what was coming at the front but that’s my style of thinking. The book takes you through the four dominant forces, then the four resulting factors and finally the six global mega trends in a cascade of relationships.

At the moment, you’re probably focused on one of the six megatrends e.g. climate change or indebtedness and fiscal issues. The forces and resulting factors will help you to understand why they are happening now and not some time in the past or future.

The world is at a crossroads and the choices don’t look good. The greatest prosperity looks to be back where we’ve come from but there’s no going back. The huge leap in population in a world of finite and diminishing resources means the future has to be different from the past.

I’m planning to read this book several more times and I’d like to learn the framework. I believe it will give me greater understanding of the possibilities, even if no one can forecast exactly what will happen when.

It is available to buy from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com.
