I’m not sure how I found it but I’ve been listening to the
Copywriters Podcast with David Garfinkel
a great deal recently.
I recommend it very highly and if you’re interested in copywriting, I think it’s well worth your time.
Of course there are a lot of copywriting podcasts produced at the moment and many of them are packed with information. It’s hard to know where to go.
Who Is David Garfinkel And Why Should You Pay Attention?
David is known as the world’s leading copywriting coach as well as being an A-list copywriter himself. He also does regular copywriting reviews for Agora, the information marketing giant. As for his contacts, I first encountered both David Garfinkel and David Deutsch through John Carlton’s Simple Writing System.
I bought his book Breakthrough Copywriting (not to be confused with Breakthrough Advertising by Eugene Schwartz) as soon as I saw it but, for some strange reason, I didn’t read it. This was a mistake. It is excellent and I gave it a five star rating in my review.
Because I loved his podcast and his book, I then spent some serious money on one of his courses, Fast Effective Copy which he produced with Brain McLeod. (That’s not an affiliate link.)
What Are The Best Episodes?
He’s just issued episode 100 although he stopped numbering them when he reached 098.
To be honest, it’s quite hard to pick out highlights because it suggests you shouldn’t listen to others. That would be wrong.
Many of them are David talking to Nathan, the host on a particular subject although there are some interviews with important copywriters:
- 055 is with Joe Schriefer of Agora and looks at the Big Idea.
- 088 is with the remarkable Parris Lampropoulos – this is a must-hear from someone who has an incredible record of beating controls.
- 095 is with Million Dollar Mike Morgan, another top copywriter who tends to hide in the shadows.
As for when David is the “star”, podcast 001 looks at curiosity headlines, 002 laziness headlines and 003 problem-solution headlines. 004 talks about the Heroo’s Journey and 005 is about stories that demonstrate, 006 is how to write better bullets, 007 looks at the vital topic of research for copywriting…
Do you see what I mean? These are virtually all essential listening.
How To Listen To Podcasts On Android
I’m an Android person so we don’t have an automatic default.
I use the Podcast Addict app – see https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bambuna.podcastaddict&hl=en_GB
