The full title of this book by Andy Cunningham is
“Get to Aha!: Discover Your Positioning DNA and Dominate Your Competition“.
Normally I have a simple rule, the book has to earn four stars to be considered worthy of featuring on this blog. I only gave this book Three Stars in my review at Amazon.co.uk and yet, I’ve decided to feature it.
Let me explain why.
It’s a specialised technology strategic marketing book masquerading as a book written for the general market. As a result, I graded it as Three Stars, but, if it had included Technology Businesses in the title/subtitle, I’d have given it Four Stars.
Here is my review.
Very interesting for technology based businesses (Four Stars) but for the rest Three Stars
This book about positioning is interesting since it says that your position in your market isn’t so much about choice but is hardwired into the type of business you have – your business DNA.
You make the most of what you are and the natural advantages you have and, if you try to go against your DNA, success will be hard if not impossible. [continue reading…]

This book by Andrew Leong is focused on increasing sales within a recruitment agency. It is called
“The Rich Recruiter.”
When I reviewed it at Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a four stars rating, meaning I consider it to be good to very good.
Here is my review.
A very practical guide
Over the years, I’ve been approached by a few recruitment agency owners for business coaching and I’ve declined upfront or after a short consultation because I think it’s a difficult profession to break into and unlike most other businesses.
You have to attract both clients and candidates, both then engage in a process outside your control, then they both have to feel very positive to offer and accept. Even when a candidate is placed, you are left hoping that both have told enough truth to keep the relationship beyond your rebate period.
I read this book because I don’t like to run away from a challenge and I have a kindle unlimited subscription. [continue reading…]

A guide to get you thinking about direct response marketing
This short book is very much focused on generating leads for the author. The book is scattered with offers and links to his website.
There isn’t much detail in the book but what there is should get you thinking along the right lines. [continue reading…]

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it a rating of Four Stars. This means I think it is Good.
Here is my book review.
A good book for anyone who has an animal attraction type business who wants to learn about marketing.
I’m a big believer in the idea of marketing books for specific markets but I find that they rarely live up to potential.
As a business coach, I’m very familiar with the main marketing techniques but, when I get a new client in an unusual business (in this case an alpaca farm), I dip into these speciality books. [continue reading…]

“Guerrilla Tourism Marketing: Increase Your Profit by Leveraging Marketing, Technology and Relationships“.
In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book a rating of Four Stars. This means I consider it to be Good.
Here is my book review.
A Very Good Book For Hotel Type Businesses
I am a big believer in marketing books targeted at specific niches because I think the hardest business to market is your own. The closer examples of good practice are to your own business, the easier it is to see their power and practicality.
I’m also a believer in the principles of Guerrilla Marketing but, unfortunately, this leading brand of small business marketing advice has been spread in too inconsistent a way as the creator, Jay Conrad Levinson teamed up with others who did the writing. This is one of the best. [continue reading…]

The rich have the money so why aren’t you selling to them?
I’m often disappointed by the books written by Dan Kennedy. I have huge respect for his entrepreneurial and marketing skills but his books have a tendency to promise more than they deliver.
This one is different.
You may not agree with everything Dan Kennedy writes… and you may not like the world it presents but it’s time to face up to some bitter truths. [continue reading…]

Packed with ideas to get more clients
This short, concise book is made up of a series of articles. Unlike the author’s other book Personal Training Sales, I didn’t feel there was much repetition and I can only remember one time when terms were used before they had been explained.
What you get when you buy this book is a series of ideas about marketing for fitness businesses written by someone very experienced in this market. That inside knowledge of what works (in America) is worth a great deal. [continue reading…]

Don’t judge the book by the cover
I found something reassuringly familiar about this book and then I discovered that both the author and I are Certified Guerrilla Marketing Coaches.
It’s not a book about Guerrilla Marketing (Jay Conrad Levinson) as such but, not surprisingly, I found a lot to like in it. [continue reading…]
