The 80/20 Rule by Ron Taylor

The full title of this book by Ron Taylor is

The 80/20 Rule: Putting the Power of the Pareto Principle to Work in Your Strategic Planning and Business Development“.

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I rated the book at the Four Stars level, meaning that I think it is good to very good.

Here is what I wrote.

An 80/20 business parable

In theory, I like the idea of a business parable, that is a novel style story that carries business lessons. In practice, my experience is that they can be hit and miss. I’ve come across some where the “plot” and dreadful dialogue get in the way of learning by making reading the book a painful and distracting experience.

This is a good one that reminds me of the One Minute Manager books and the way they reinforce the key lessons.

The plot is the obvious one. A business is in big trouble and the owner may be forced to accept defeat. His bank manager tells the owner to go and see three other business owners that have turned around their own businesses. It turns out that they did it by using 80/20 thinking but in different ways.

My criticism is also a compliment. The book should be longer because there is plenty of extra ways that 80/20 can be used. I’d also have liked the owner to have implemented the ideas from the other three but to have had to overcome barriers or difficulties to increase the learning and help to prepare readers.

It is available to buy from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. It is also available to borrow under the Kindle Unlimited subscription at Amazon.co.uk.
