A series of short articles about all kinds of management topics

This is an unusual management book. It is based on a series of articles written by Anthony Hernandez and is designed to be read one article per week over a year.

Each article covers about one and a half to two and a half pages and is written as a stand-alone thought piece.

As such the book is very easy to pick up and put down. The articles are well written and interesting. However the format frustrates as much as it fascinates. The brevity means that you can be left wanting more details and the individual articles don’t really flow into each other which doesn’t make prolonged reading particularly satisfying.

The coverage of the book takes you well outside the marketing area with chapters on finance, customer service, management, sales, productivity and employees which may be a problem if you want marketing tips.

I’ve given it a three star rating. I don’t believe people have the discipline to read one chapter per week or even one chapter per day so I can imagine the book being bought, started and put to one side. It may be useful for readers who have a short commute or have a few minutes to spare before sales appointments and who can therefore thrive on the dive in and put down nature of the book.

If you are looking for an introduction to Guerrilla Marketing, I recommend the “Startup Guide To Guerrilla Marketing” as a better place to start.
