The One Sentence Persuasion Course by Blair Warren

The full title of this book by Blair Warren is

The One Sentence Persuasion Course – 27 Words to Make the World Do Your Bidding“.

In my review at Amazon.co.uk, I rated it at the Four Stars level, meaning I think it is good to very good.

Here is what I wrote.

Well worth reading

I was one of the people who read the first, free version of this book and I made a deliberate effort to learn the one sentence. It is a great summary of persuasion.

Sadly in the intervening time, I’ve forgotten it but, I was interested enough to buy this new, improved version. The sentence is the basis for strong relationships.

The drawback is that it’s not necessarily the basis for doing the right thing, about telling the person what they need to hear rather than what they want to hear.

This isn’t so much a criticism as a reflection on the real world. Going back to your teenage years, your mother had your best interests at heart and was probably right but did you listen to and act on her views about that bad girlfriend or boyfriend, the bad crowd you’d fallen in with, alcohol or cigarettes or the motorbike you wanted? Probably not.

It’s a reminder that you need to persuade by recognising how people are and not how you want them to be. This might be the underlying reason why your current persuasion attempts aren’t as successful as you want.

It’s also the reason why there can be a grey are between persuasion and manipulation. In marketing, there is a saying that you should sell people on what they want before you try to sell them on what they need..

The author admits that the main part of the book is the original pdf, with a few changes. After that, there is a section where persuasion gets reduced to three words with one of them “and”. This rises above the 27 word sentence to give a broader view. It is also contrasted with a common mistake many people make in their efforts to persuade.

The book is available for a low price and the value of a book depends on what you take out of it and not the number of words written. I’m glad I read it but at the moment, I’m also feeling slightly disappointed at the new section.

You can buy the book at Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com
