Niche: The missing middle and why business needs to specialise to survive
In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it Two Stars.
Here is my review.
Perhaps an interesting book but it’s struggling to get out because it jumps around so much
Every now and again a book comes along that makes me question why I read so many business books and this is such a book.
I began to read, eager to find out why the middle market has collapsed in many markets but the more I read, the more I despaired. [continue reading…]

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave the book Two Stars.

A nice idea but done badly when the author is usually so good
The full title “Who Killed Change? Solving The Mystery Of Leading People Through Change” gives some hints that this shocking book is business training wrapped up in a murder mystery story. [continue reading…]

Creating Competitive Advantage: Give Customers a Reason to Choose You Over Your Competitors
In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it 3 Stars.
Here is my review.
Competitive advantage or benefit statement?
Every now and again I read a book that plenty of other people rave about but I don’t get. This is such a book. Sometimes the writing style just doesn’t click with me. Sometimes it’s the message in a book that’s the problem and that’s what happens here. [continue reading…]

Upselling Techniques That Really Work!
In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it 3 Stars.
Here is my review.
More of a general sales training book.
This reads like a general sales training book that also includes upsells rather than the focused book on upselling that I was expecting. [continue reading…]

It’s Not Luck
by Eliyahu Goldratt posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it Three Stars. This is Worthwhile.
Here is my review.
A story using the Theory of Constraints in the market where lack of demand is the constraint
I read It’s Not Luck when it was first published in 1994 and have read it several times since but I still think it’s a disappointing book.
I loved The Goal by Eli Goldratt. It is an insightful business book which revealed simple and powerful ideas through a fast paced and engaging story. It brought the Theory of Constraints to the world and challenged some of the new ideas coming out to right the ills of 1980s/1990s accounting. It’s Not Luck is a pale shadow of it’s famous predecessor. [continue reading…]

In my review posted at Amazon.co.uk, I gave it 3 Stars.
Here is my review.
Interesting but could have been much better
The headline in an advertisement is often described as “the ad for the ad”.
It’s designed to interest you enough to want to know more so that you keep reading. By mixing a combination of news, benefits and curiosity, it’s tough to learn how to write great headlines. [continue reading…]

Good for explaining why customer loyalty is important but the title doesn’t describe the book
The author makes a strong case using various statistics to explain why encouraging customer loyalty is such an important issue. It then lists five reasons why customers might stay loyal and six reasons why customers might stop buying from you. [continue reading…]

In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it 3 Stars.

A focus on improving profit by improving customer experiences.
This book takes a long time to get going thanks to the boasts about the author written in a third person voice that I found off-putting. At the 12% mark in my Kindle, it finally gets going. [continue reading…]

More Gross Profit: Increase Your Gross Profit On Every Sale Starting Right Now
In my review posted on Amazon.co.uk, I gave it 3 Stars.
Here is my review.
A book of sales tips that include how to resist price pressure
I’m a believer in the old maxim “turnover is vanity but profit is sanity” so I welcome books that focus on profit or margin growth.
However this proved to be a disappointment because it wasn’t the book I was expecting from its title. [continue reading…]
